Robert H Atkins, 86, passed away quietly in his home on September 25 with his loving wife of 46 years, Betty Nelle (Podeyn) Atkins at his side. Bob, the son of John H and Edna Pearl Atkins, was born in Richmond, IN. Bob was a WWII
Veteran who graduated from Richmond High School while serving in the US Army
and was with the 1st Calvary among the first troops deployed to occupy Japan at the end the war. He returned to Richmond where he lived and worked briefly for King's Dairy and married Rose Mary (King) Atkins. They moved to Orlando in 1963. Rose Mary passed away in 1966. Bob and Betty met and were married in Orlando where they lived until moving to Cocoa in 2003. Bob had a 30-year career with Metropolitan Life split between Richmond and Orlando and retired in 1976. He and Betty traveled the US and Canada for the next 25 years. They attended games in every major league baseball park along the way. Bob was a loving family man, a member of Reid Memorial Presbyterian (Richmond) and 1st Presbyterian (Orlando) Churches, a Mason, an avid Cincinnati Reds and Florida Gator fan and a regular at Spring Training parks in Florida. A true gentleman with genuine love of people and conversation, which made him a natural salesman who made more friends than sales. Bob is survived by Betty, his sister Dorothy Lineback (Dayton, OH) three children Paula Beyer (Curt/Bubba) of Cocoa, Bob Jr. (Sherry)of Merritt Island and Terrie French (Marty Blair) of Orlando, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters Betty Brelage and Mary Benner of Richmond, IN. A celebration of Bob's life will be held Sunday Sept 29 at the Lost Lakes Clubhouse at 140 Lost Lakes Dr, Cocoa, FL 32926 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to VITAS Innovative Hospice Care of Brevard County.
