LARRY MATTHIS Obituary

MATTHIS, LARRY EDWARD, born on Sept. 23, 1955 in California where his dad was stationed in the military. Moving here soon after birth, he considered himself a Florida native. He graduated from Colonial H.S. in 1969, joined the Air Force; then worked as a Communications Installation Technician until 2009 when he retired due to his illnesses. A life member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #3496, he loved volunteering and it was at the Eagles where he met his wife, Alvena whom he married in 1991. Larry enjoyed listening to music, cooking for family and friends, playing golf and watching the Gators- he loved the blue and orange. He will be remembered for his fun-loving personality, generosity and his detailed philosophies. Larry is survived by his wife
Alvena; mother Barbara Futch; sister Angelia Happ (Jim); nephew Sean Happ; step-sons Kurt and Ken Poje,; son Jeff Seigman (Kristi) of Oklahoma, son Steven; daughter Jenniffer; and two grandsons of California. He also had an extended family of staff and residents at Terra Vista Nursing Home. He endured many physical disabilities in the past few years, the most difficult being the brave battle against cancer that he fought and lost on December 13. The family would like to thank Vitas Hospice and doctors and staff at Florida Hospital Cancer Center for their care and comfort.
A memorial service will be at
A Community Funeral Home,
(407) 841-4424, 910 W. Michigan Ave. at 7 PM. on Monday, Dec. 19. Private burial will be held at Florida National. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to FOE #3496, 1900 S Goldenrod, Orlando.

God Bless you & your family, Alvena. I remember when you and Larry stopped by back in 1996. He was very nice and I am so glad that I got to meet him. Now those Gators have an Angel to help them make those tough passes/catches! What a great story from his youth when he sold cokes at "The Swamp". He did his part, then sat and watched the game - definitely a loyal fan! I became a Gator fan after my emergency medical flight to Gainesville in an orange & blue medical aircraft with a gator on the side. I'm so glad the Good Lord gave us this wonderful gift of our memories - your memories will give you comfort, strength and a smile or two. You are in my prayers, my friend. Love you, sister, Steph

Alvena, I hope that I'm not too late to express my sympathy. I was not able to attend the memorial service. So sorry for your loss but glad it seems you are making peace with it also. I know it is often a weight lifted when loved ones get to a point that you know crosing over is really what is best for them. God Bless and let me know if I can do anything for you. Lance

Larry, It seems like yesterday that we celebrated Valentines Day last year. Who would have thought that a week later we would receive such a sad diagnosis. Now it has been two months since we said our final goodbyes. I can still hear you say that our love will last forever and a day & that we will be together again. To my wonderful husband, my Valentine and love of my life. Alvena

I didn't know you long but you made a huge impression. Always a smile and laugh ready for all to enjoy. Miss the friendly arguments about who was better, the Gators or the Buckeyes. Thanks for you guidance in all things FOE. You must have been a great President because you sure have been an awesome Past President. Know that you are sorely missed and we love you.

Larry was truly one of a kind. That golf cart ride was really a trip. I can only think of what it would have been like if he had found his golf clubs. We had sooo many good times it was almost as though he was always here. We sure miss the Beav and his stir fry.
RIP my Friend
