Annabelle Cochran Obituary
beloved mother of Bonnie Farrington, Marti Cochran, and Paula Cochran; beloved grandmother of Jennifer and James Farrington and David Zell; beloved great-grandmother of Raymond and Cole Farrington; and beloved friend and happy spirit to all who had the pleasure of meeting her, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 24, in Los Gatos, California, at the home of her daughter, Paula. She would want to tell everyone, she had a wonderful life. She saw the good in everyone; she woke up every morning with a smile; she was never in a bad mood. She was born Annabelle Ruth Price to Joseph and Lucille Price of Unionville, Iowa, on July 2, 1919. She was the middle of seven children, her brothers Harold, Herb, and Harry Price and her sister Agnes Ford previously passed away; she is survived by her sisters Vera Young and Virgene Johnson. She grew up on the Price family farm near Unionville, Iowa. She later attended Parsons college, and left for Los Angeles, California to live with her older sister Aggie while working during World War II. There, she met a handsome Navy Seabee, Raymond Paul Cochran, whom she married after the war and followed back to his home in Tennessee. They began their family with daughter Bonnie, when Ray was completing his bachelor's degree at the University of Tennessee. Daughters Marti and Paula followed. They moved to Etowah, Tennessee, near Ray's parents, and lived there until 1957, when they moved to Clermont, Florida. Annabelle and Ray loved raising their family in Clermont, a special town with rolling hills, spring fed lakes, and the smell of orange blossoms in the air every spring. Ray managed the Citrus Tower, a tourist attraction, and Annabelle soon went to work at the visitor's greeting desk, where she met everyone with her famous smile. They were involved in every aspect of the community they loved. Ray passed away in 1992, after a long illness. Annabelle was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Clermont, which she attended regularly from 1957 until she left Clermont in August 2009. She loved volunteering for rummage sales. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and an enthusiastic volunteer for poppy drives and bake sales. She drove for meals-on-wheels. She loved playing bridge. She was a member of the Clermont Women's Club and Green Valley Country Club, where she was an avid golfer for many years. She loved music and especially loved musicals. All of her daughters attended the University of Florida, and Annabelle became a big fan of the University of Florida Gator football team. In August 2009, Annabelle's daughters persuaded her to give up her apartment in Clermont and live with each of them. She began her round-robin travels. She spent the fall with Marti in Washington, D.C., where she loved going to musicals, visiting museums and monuments, taking in the fall foliage, and reading with Marti's book club. She spent the winter in Los Gatos, CA, with Paula, where grandson David entertained her with his drums and carnivorous plants. She spent summers in Darby, Montana, with Bonnie and son-in-law Allen, where great grandsons Ray and Cole provided much entertainment. A memorial service will be held in Clermont, Florida on Saturday, June 25 at 11 a.m. at the First Untied Methodist Church.
