CHARLES JOHN WALBROEL Jr. Notice
WALBROEL, JR., CHARLES JOHN95, a D-Day survivor, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2013 in Orlando, Florida. Born on August 31, 1918 in St. Louis, Missouri to Charles John Walbroel, Sr. and Ruby Jones, Charles attended Hancock District grade and high schools and Washington University. He met Mildred Williams and they married in 1941. They were blessed with the birth of a son, Charles Edward, in 1942. Charles was inducted into the Army in January 1943. After training at various stateside locations his unit was selected to be a part of the Normandy invasion. Charles was wounded in July 1944 and was shipped to England for recuperation. His orders sent him back into service in France and after many months returned to the United States where he was honorably discharged. He went to work for the Air Force at the Aeronautical Chart Plant in St. Louis. In 1951, Charles and Mildred were blessed with another child, daughter Cathy. The family moved to Orlando, Florida when Charles was transferred to the parent headquarters of the Air Photographic and Charting Service in Orlando. He remained on staff until the headquarters were reorganized and transferred to Norton AFB, California in 1968. He retired in 1972 and returned to Orlando. Charles and Mildred traveled extensively until her health waned and she passed away in 1997. In 1998, Charles met Annabel Hall at North Park Baptist Church and after a delightful three-year courtship married her at the same church, on the same date, they had met three years before. Charles and Annabel traveled widely and enjoyed the activities of several fraternal organizations including the Elks, Lodge #1079, the Moose, Eagles and VFW. He is predeceased by his loving wife, Annabel, and is survived by son, Charles E. Walbroel, MD, (Cynthia) of Longwood, FL, daughter Cathy Snidar (Charles) of Fredericksburg, VA, grandsons Charles Jonathan Walbroel (Angel) and Jeffrey Walbroel, granddaughters Julie Walbroel, Carrie Aleshire (Chad), Larissa Snidar, and four great granddaughters, Ava and Adelaide Walbroel and Gabrielle and Josephine Aleshire. A visitation will be held at Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, 2811 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, Florida on Friday, October 18, 2013, 6-8 p.m. and Funeral Services will be at Audubon Park Covenant Church, 3219 East Chelsea Street, Orlando, Florida on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. He will be interred in Florida National Cemetery at Bushnell, Florida with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Audubon Park Covenant Church, 3219 East Chelsea Street, Orlando, Florida 32803 or the Orlando Elks Lodge #1079, 12 North Primrose Drive, Orlando, Florida 32806.
