I miss Tony like crazy; he was my roommate at Oglethorpe (1957-) and I learned much from him; he was a superb student. (And we both became college professors! He was great friend and colleague.) My sincere on-going thoughts to all his friends and family.

Dr. Paredes was a professor worth emulating when it was my turn in Academia

Dr. Paredes was a true professional that brought his personal passion to his students and his teaching. When I was offered the opportunity to spend a week in Arizona at a Navajo BIA school, Tony organized an evening session designed to prepare me to understand the students and staff with whom I would be working. His is a spirit that will be missed but his enthusiasm will be carried forth by those whose lives he has touched.

Dr. Paredes offered much positive feedback to me when I was a new FSU anthropology student in the 1970s and took an interest in my academic progress even though I was taking more classes in physical than cultural. He cared about his students as individuals, He was a gentleman and all around nice guy. I know his family has many warm memories to share.

Dr. Paredes really had an impact on my professional and personal life, I was very saddened to hear of his passing. He was an incredible mentor for me at FSU, and it were not for his support and encouragement I might not have made it through! I will value the wisdom, humor, generosity, and patience he had and hope I carry forth some of those same traits in my own life. He had an impact in this world and he will be missed and remembered by many.

It is hard to fathom that such a powerful life force has been silenced. Having known and worked with Tony since 1979 I know how much my life has been enriched first as a student and later as a colleague and friend. Now as I reflect on these decades I know his life force has not been ended but it continues on within all those he touched. Thank you Tony.

I was a student of Dr. Paredes in the early 1980's at FSU. I did my Master's thesis on the Seminole Indians, and Dr. Paredes was a great help concerning resources on the early history of the Creek Indians. I was sorry to hear of his passing.

I am so sorry to hear this news. I first met Tony Parades when I was 4 years old and we moved next door to the Parades family in Orlando. Tony and I grew up together--until he and his family moved to another part of town. We reconnected when I joined the faculty at FSU and often laughed about our times on Hillside Avenue in Orlando. I used to tease him that he was the one who told me there is no Santa Clause! I think that is a true statement. Theresa, Keith, Lynn my condolences to you and to the rest of Tony's family.

Tony and I have been friends since September 1957--we were roommates our freshman year at Oglethorpe. He helped me to become a good student--though never as good as he was. Remarkably, or maybe not so remarkably, we both became college profs. I shall miss our talks, our drinking of fine brandy or cognac as we closed down some bar, and I shall grieve his passing the rest of my days.
