Margaret Powell Obituary

POWELL, MARGARET GOHR 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 6, 2010 after a long battle with ovarian cancer. She bravely fought this serious illness for the last 2 1/2 years and amazed her doctors and caregivers with her strength, spirit, hope, tenacious humor and strong will. It was with this same tremendous courage she decided it was time to let go. Those who knew Margo knew that she enjoyed the simpler things; playing bridge, traveling with her family and talking to her friends. She also loved her summers in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. Margo loved this quote: "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and affection of little children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you lived. This is to have succeeded." Margo is survived by daughters Cathy Tripp (Roger), Shari Ayers (Kevin); son Larry Gohr, dog Missy; grandchildren Jenny, Chris, Drew, Jackie and great-grandson Brody. Margo chose not to have a funeral service or visitation. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund or Vitas Hospice.

Our hearts are filled with love and memories of dear Margo, certainly one of the most Valiant ladies the world could know. Our personal grief is much, but than the joy of being her friend and having shared in some small way a part of her life is great and so rewarding. She lives on in so many ways.
Our thoughts are with each of you , she did love her family so much.
I will not say goodbye, but adios for now dear Margo. Your friend forever.
