Starnes, Richard Dick, 72, of Longwood died peacefully at home on Saturday, February 5, 2011, surrounded by loving family and friends. Dick was born January 16, 1939 in Memphis, TN to Wesley Earl Starnes and Ruby Williams Starnes. He was the youngest of six children. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1964, stationed at Walter Reed Medical Center as a Medical Technician. He was married to Barbara Grider Starnes from 1958 until her death in 1993, and with her had two children, Wesley and Pamela. His professional career was focused on healthcare and hospital administration. He had a long-time association with Florida Hospital since moving to Orlando in 1976. He was a wonderfully kind and loving man of integrity, a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, friend, and colleague. He was passionate about running and successfully competed in several marathons, including twice the Boston Marathon. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Foster Starnes, son Wesley E. Starnes II, daughter Pamela Starnes Solberg, granddaughter Devon Solberg, step-daughters Lisa McIntosh, Lori Adams, and Leslie Hazen; step-grandchildren Bailey, Kaitlyn, Robert, Hannah, Hailey, Lindsey and Ethan; brothers Eugene and Wesley Starnes, and sister Earline Bridges. A visitation will be held Friday, February 11, 2011 from 4-8 pm at the Baldwin-Fairchild West Altamonte Chapel (90 Weathersfield Drive, Altamonte Springs, 32714). A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 3:00 pm at the Florida Hospital SDA Church (2800 N. Orange Avenue, Orlando, 32804). The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a contribution be made to Shepherds Hope (www.ShepardsHope.org) or Starnes Trust Worthy Student Fund, 2653 Juneway Drive, Bartlett, Tennessee 38134.
