78, of Montverde, FL went to be with the Lord on September 8, 2011 at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL after a sudden illness. Loving family surrounded her. Mrs. Hoekstra was born on May 22, 1933 in Tampa, FL, daughter of the late Peter and Grace (Bouterse) Jellesma. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Louis Hoekstra, Jr.; she was preceded in death by daughter, Linda in Alaska in 1954 and is survived by three daughters, Judith Eizenga of Chicago, Trudy Blakeman Ryon of Orlando, and Kathleen Giroux of Lakeland; two sons, Brian Hoekstra of Scottsdale, AZ, and Louis Hoekstra III of Orlando; two brothers, Peter B. Jellesma, Jr. of Palm Bay, and Jack Jellesma of Barefoot Bay. Her sister, Nellie
Picotte, preceded her in death in Whitinsville, MA in 2002. She leaves nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She moved from Florida to Whitinsville, MA in 1941 and graduated from Northbridge High School in 1952. Mrs. Hoekstra spent the next 20 years moving with her family around the world to 11 different Air Force bases and attended the University of Guam during that time. She eventually settled in Central Florida and spent the next 25 years working as a Community Relations Representative for McDonald's Corporation and Occupational Placement Specialist for the Orange and Lake County Public School Systems.
Alice enjoyed sewing, photography, reading, travel, FSU Football, and spending time with family. A memorial service for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, September 13th at 5 p.m. at New Life Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Minneola. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to New Life Presbyterian Church, 18237 East Apshawa Rd., Minneola, FL 34715. A private burial will precede the service at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. Arrangements are being handled by Becker Funeral Home, 806 W. Minneola Ave, Clermont, FL 34711.
