JOHN McCarthy Notice
MCCARTHY, JOHN, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday morning, July 25 at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL at the age of 47. He courageously fought a nearly two year battle with Leukemia. John was born on April 24, 1965 and was raised in Syracuse, NY. John and his family lived in Arizona and then Ohio until relocating to Oviedo, FL in 2004 where he lived for the past 8 years. John graduated in 1983 from West Genesee High School. He was an accomplished High School athlete in both football and lacrosse. John's West Genesee lacrosse teams won two New York State Championships in 1982 and 1983. After graduating High School in 1983, John attended Cortland State University earning a B.A. in Economics. John's aggressive lacrosse play earned him the distinction of All-America Defender for the Red Dragons in 1987. During these years, John forged lifelong friendships which proved to be of immeasurable value throughout his life and his illness. John's professional career was as successful as his athletic career. He began working in the Food Industry at Oscar Mayer and later joined the Sara Lee Corporation where he was recognized for his outstanding leadership and business results. John continued to distinguish himself as a valued business partner to both his customers and his Sara Lee teammates. John enjoyed his greatest accomplishments and proudest moments as a dad and a husband. John was devoted to a family that looked to him for leadership, encouragement, wisdom, support, and love. He is survived by his wife Anne; his three beautiful children Jake, Kelly and David who made him so very proud; his parents Robert and Marie of Syracuse NY; sister Anne (Bob) Irving of Boston and brother Rob in Kansas City. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. The McCarthy family would like to offer a special thanks to the medical professionals who assisted John at Moffitt. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in Syracuse, NY at Holy Family Catholic Church on Monday, July 30 at 10 AM. A celebration of John's life can be viewed in the forrier before the mass at 9:15 AM. Additionally, there will be calling hours in Oviedo, Florida on Friday, Aug. 3 from 6 to 8 PM at National Cremation & Burial Society, 7565 Red Bug Lake Rd. The funeral Mass will be on Saturday, Aug. 4t at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in Oviedo, 113 Lockwood Blvd.
