Notice Condolences

CLEMENTS, WALTER EUGENE, of Maitland passed away on December 30 at Vitas Hospice House in Winter Park. He was 92 years old. He will be remembered for his eternal optimism, kindness, and good nature. He was a loving husband, father, friend, and avid Gator fan. May he rest in blissful peace. Walter was born in Hugo, Oklahoma and his father was a man of many talents. He was a clergyman, naturopath, chiropractor and he taught Walter to fly airplanes at a young age. Walter attended high school in Sebring, FL. and attended college at Florida Southern where he won an award for dating the most women in 1 year. He entered the Army Air Corps in December 1941, and for 31 months was part of the famous "Burma Bridge Busters" in the China- Burma-India theater of WWII. After the war, Walter married Gloria Miller whom he met at Florida Southern and attended Law school at the University of Florida on the GI Bill. He obtained his law degree in 1948. After graduating from Law school, Walter moved to Tampa and worked in private industry and moved his family which included children George, John, and Veta to Winter Park, FL where he lived until Gloria's untimely death in 1975. Walter's first love was engineering and late in his career he became Director of Training for Florida Gas Transmission Company. He was fondly remembered by students and staff alike for his wonderful sense of humor. Walter remarried in 1979 to Roberta Lovett from Maitland, FL. Walter lived in Maitland until 2012 when he moved to the Winter Park Towers and remained a resident there until his death. Walter was preceded in death by his son George and is survived by his wife, Roberta; his step daughters Teresa Bevel and Lori Sunday; his son John
Clements (Eve) and daughter Veta Cumbaa (Larry). Walter leaves behind four grandchildren: George Fitzgerald, Todd Clements, Sarah Byrd, and Rebecca Cumbaa. A memorial service will be held to honor Walter's life at the First Presbyterian Church of Maitland 341 North Orlando Ave., Maitland, FL 32751 on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 10 AM. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers those donations can be made to Vitas Hospice Care of Winter Park, 2075 Loch Lomond Dr., Winter Park 32792.
