Ethelyn Eleanor Head

Notice Condolences

Ethelyn Eleanor Head Notice
Head, Ethelyn Eleanor "" passed from this life on June 20, 2013, in the presence of family and friends. Known as "Miss Lynn" to many who knew her, she was born Ethelyn Eleanor Raugh on July 9, 1932, in Seattle, Washington. The daughter of Theodore Reginald Raugh and Alice Ethel (Lawe) Raugh, Mom entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1950, and would serve her country until 1953. While in the Marines, she met a dashing young Sergeant named Edward Gilbert Head, and on November 1, 1953, they wed, and began a life together that would be rich and full. The military kept them on the road as they lived by turns in Virginia, Washington State, southern California, southwest Georgia, and South Korea. They eventually found their lasting dream home in Umatilla, Florida in 1980. There, they put down roots, and found their first true home together, as they were active in both church and community for over two decades. When she lost her life-mate in 2003, Mom remained in the family home, and busied herself in volunteer work in the church and the community at large. Her greatest gifts were her compassion and her caring for others, and many people were the fortunate recipients of her loving kindness. As loving wife, strong and supporting mother, and delighted grandmother, Lynn has left indelible marks of grace and joy on all those people whose lives she has touched. Mom loved to travel, and in later years was able to visit her daughter Teri and her family on the West Coast, travel to Great Britain, Ireland and France, and journey to the Holy Land, where she was baptized in the River Jordan. Her happiest journey took place on June 20, as she went to be with her beloved soulmate, Ed. Lynn is survived by a son, Edward Gilbert Head Jr. and his wife Margaret Dowdle, a daughter, Teresa Lynn Yarruhs, her husband Jose, and grandchildren Sarah Elizabeth, Amy, and Christopher. She is also survived by a myriad of kinfolk in the Raugh and Head families who will miss her very much. Most importantly, she is survived by a legacy of strength, intelligence, and Christian caring which will keep her memory ever bright in the minds and hearts of all who were blessed with the good fortune to know her. Services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Church at Whistling Pine - Umatilla. The family will receive friends Tuesday, 6 to 8 p.m at the Beyers Funeral Home - Umatilla. Beyers Funeral Home in Umatilla is in charge of the arrangements. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in her name are invited to do so with Cornerstone Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Tavares/Central Florida via this site: http://cshospice.org/?get-involved/donations.html
