Passed away peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital on April 24, 2013 at the age of 57, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Beloved wife of Vladimir, mother of daughter Xenia and son Slava. Predeceased by her father Andrei (1998) and mother Nina (2002).
Born in eastern Siberia, Irene left the former USSR in 1991 with her husband and two children, settling in New Zealand in 1992. Ten years later, Irene and family moved to Canada, which she always thought of as the best country in the world, and lived in Ottawa ever since.
A professional mathematician with a Ph.D. degree from Victoria University of Wellington (1996), Irene has worked as a Scientist with the Australian Federal Government and with the University of Ottawa. From 2007 until her passing, Irene was a Senior Scientist at the Defence R&D Canada Centre for Operational Research and Analysis.
Irene loved nature, birds, fitness, walking and jogging, travel, classical music, art, literature and cinema. She was an accomplished culinary artist, as many guests can attest. Her family, friends and colleagues will always remember Irene as high-spirited, fearless, optimistic, caring, and gentle.
Sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Ottawa General Hospital Cancer Centre, Oncology floor, and the Intensive Care Unit.
A service will be held on Saturday. For
