John died on 1st February, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He is survived by his devoted wife, Janet (Glaves), his children, Michael Maclean (Oshawa), Lise Allin and Ted Maclean (Belleville), their mother, Joan Smith (Rockport), his sisters, Joanna (Barrie) and Robin (Tucson, Az.), and predeceased by his sister Elizabeth. John served in Korea with the Royal Canadian Regiment (2RCR). As a journalist he covered the Supreme Court and Parliament Hill for many years and was elected to Honorary Membership in the Parliamentary Press Gallery. As well as his passion for politics, John was a pilot, a boater, a car enthusiast, the author of two books and a member of Mensa. In spite of his stoic struggle with MS, John had a full, colourful, and interesting life. Grateful thanks to the circle of very supportive family and friends, the caring staff of the Perley & Rideau Veterans' Health Centre and to Veterans Affairs Canada. At John's request there will be no visitation or funeral. Anyone wishing to make a donations please do so to the Perley and Rideau Foundation, or the M.S. Society.
