October 16, 1918 - March 8, 2014
Kay passed away peacefully at the Westwood Residence, Ottawa on March 8, 2014. She will be greatly missed by her children Ian (Carole) and Laurie Ihrig as well as her five devoted grandchildren, Peter, Andrew (Joanne), Ashley (Julia), Alex and Karen and 5 great- grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving husband Archie and brother Spencer. Kay was born and raised in Ottawa. She attended Lisgar Collegiate where she excelled at athletics and developed a lifelong love of literature which later translated into a career as a librarian at Carleton University. She was a dedicated volunteer in Ottawa library circles and served on committees at MacKay United Church and other local organizations. Archie passed away after many happy years together. In retirement, Kay travelled extensively with her many close friends and made many trips to Arizona to visit Laurie and Karen. The family extends its deepest thanks to the staff of the Westwood Residence for their many years of loving care. Friends are invited to visit the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 from 7 to 9 pm and Thursday from 1 to 2:30 pm. A Funeral Service will follow in the Chapel at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada.
