William ROY

ROY, William (Bill) Milton
The music stopped for Bill on January 11, the day of his 94th birthday. He was born on a farm near Buckingham Quebec, and served in the Canadian Air Force during WWII. He fell in love and married his beloved Virginia Mae Daily who predeceased him in March 2011. They raised Ken (Nicole) and Steve (Marlene) in Carleton Heights. Bill spent his working years at the National Research Council in Ottawa. On winter evenings, he often socialized at the Carleton Heights Curling Club, where he was a founding member. He was also a proud founding member of the Carleton Memorial United Church where he would regularly participate on Sunday mornings. On weekends and holidays, the family skied in the Gatineau Hills, and during summers, pioneered the southwest shore of Otty Lake near Perth. In retirement, Bill golfed with friends and hammed it up on his radio (VE3FXG). As a do-it-yourselfer, he was a master at troubleshooting problems, and used his ingenuity to develop simple solutions. He always enjoyed socializing and stimulated lively conversation on almost any topic. Bill and Virginia wintered for more than 10 years near Fort Myers, Florida. They spent their most senior years dancing together and with friends to the music at their Park Place Retirement home. Bill was the cherished grandfather of Tom (Amy), Fred (Haley), Jason, and Lindsay (Melissa), great grandfather of April, Tara and Suzie, and uncle to many nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, January 24, at 2:30 p.m., in the Park Place Retirement Residence auditorium, 110 Central Park Drive, Ottawa. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the charity of your choice. Online condolences can be made at www.colefuneralservices.com
