POUNDER, Donald Williamson
May 1, 2013. It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Donald Pounder (1925 - 2013). Donald was predeceased by his parents, Irvine and Susie Pounder, his brothers John and James, and his sister-in- law Margaret. He is survived by his sister-in- law Veronica, his nieces Kathryn, Janet, Amanda, and Carolyn, and his nephews Michael, David, and Geoffrey. He will be missed by his many friends in Ottawa and beyond. Donald's father was a distinguished professor of mathematics at the University of Toronto and later York University, and Donald followed in his footsteps. After graduating from the University of Toronto, he completed a Masters degree in mathematics at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Donald applied his academic training to a varied career at Avro Canada, IBM, and Systems Dimensions, among others. Donald's many interests included gliding and early music. He was an active member of Canadian Amateur Musicians/Musiciens Amateurs du Canada, and was a master player of the recorder. In later years, he keenly pursued genealogical research. He was also a founding member of a small University of Toronto luncheon club. A service in memory of Donald will be held at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Road, Ottawa on Tuesday, May 21st at 3:30 pm preceded by a visitation at 2:30, and followed by an afternoon tea.
