KIDD, Betty Hazel (May) Peacefully, at Winchester District Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, surrounded by her family, Betty Kidd at the age of 74. Beloved mother of Andrew (Vanessa Chang) and Sara (Sal Eldin). Loving grandmother of Zayden, Vivian and Lily. Dear sister of Don (Babs) May, Barbara (George) Norton and cousin of Irvin Sunstrum (Brenda). Predeceased by her loving husband James Kidd and her parents Wilfred and Doris May. Betty graduated from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Geography. She taught high school at North Dundas District and Bell high schools for three years before becoming an archivist at the Public Archives of Canada (now Library and Archives Canada) in 1966. She spent most of her career as Director of the National Map Collection and Director of the Visual and Sound Archives Division. She retired in 2001 as Director General, Canadian Archives Branch. Betty served on the boards of numerous organizations, including the Association of Canadian Map Libraries and Archives, the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, and the Russell Historical Society / Keith M. Boyd Museum. Betty was also very involved with the Russell United Church and the C.G.I.T. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Daley Family Funeral Home, 6971 Bank St.(between Scrivens Dr. and Metcalfe corner) on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Saturday in the Chapel for service at 2 p.m. Interment North Russell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Alzheimer's Society of Cornwall, 106B Second Street West P.O. Box 1852, Cornwall, ON K6H 6N6 or the Osgoode Care Centre would be most appreciated by the family.

I was sorry to hear about Betty. She was my boss and colleague for years at LAC. She believed in and promoted special collections and beyond that was a caring person, ready to listen. We will miss you Betty.

Betty and I grew up together in Russell but I lost touch after moving away from that area in the sixties. She is now at peace and with her Heavenly family. My condolences to the family.
