AMANDA KELSALL Obituary

Published by Ottawa Citizen from Jan. 8 to Jan. 9, 2014.
KELSALL, Amanda
It is with deep sadness that the John W Kelsall family of Horseshoe Valley, Ontario, announces that Amanda Lee Kelsall, born 16 Feb 1991, tragically passed away on 05 Jan 14. Amanda was the daughter of John and Sharon Kelsall and the older sister of Debra and Jenna. She was the granddaughter of John and Lottie Kelsall and Blanche Rundle (predeceased by Hugh Rundle). As well, she was a cousin, niece, friend and very special friend to Jonathan Taylor. Amanda was an outstanding track athlete and student, both in high school and university. She won numerous awards, honours and scholarships, achieving 100% in many courses. After graduating with honours from Eastview Secondary School in Barrie, Ontario, she enrolled at Queen's University in Kingston and completed a BSc in chemistry. After this, she was accepted into medical school at the University of Ottawa and was in her 2nd year, working towards her dream of becoming a doctor. But best of all, Amanda loved the Lord Jesus Christ with her whole heart and accepted Him as her personal Saviour as a little girl. Amanda lived for Him with everything she was and devoted her life to mentorship and service in the church, community and mission work in Ghana, Africa. Amanda lived to dance and worship her Lord. She is now in Jesus' arms. The visitation will be held at Willow Creek Baptist Church in Midhurst, Ontario on Thursday 09 Jan 14 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A final visitation will be held on Friday 10 Jan 14 at 11 am at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Barrie, Ontario, followed by a brief luncheon at noon. The Memorial service will also occur at Emmanuel Baptist Church on Friday at 1:30 pm. Donations can be made to the Amanda Kelsall Fund at the University of Ottawa to financially support undergraduate medical students. English: alumni.uottawa.ca/ medicine. French: alumni.uottawa.ca/ medicine. Alternately, donations can be made by calling 1-888-352-7222 (outside Ottawa) or 613-562-5800, extension 3417 (in Ottawa.) Arrangements entrusted to the Jennett Chapel of the McClelland and Slessor Funeral Home 152 Bradford Street, Barrie. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.funeralhome.on.ca

God shared this beautiful girl with us for almost 23 years.
She was a joy to us as we watched her grow up. Always full of life and fun. Very affectionate always showing her love for us with her whole heart. Her last words shortly before the accident "Oh Grammie I love you soo much" Her Poppie's last words to her were "Amanda we're so proud of you." A big hug and a kiss and she was gone.

We know that the CMDS student group in Ottawa was very important to Amanda and we truly appreciate her leadership there. I attended the western student retreat last weekend in Saskatoon and the 90 people gathered took some time to pray for all of you who are experiencing this loss. We will ask the general membership all across Canada to pray for you as well. We will ask the Lord Jesus to console all of you with his abiding presence in this difficult time.
We are truly sorry for your loss, as it is our loss too.
Sincerely

Amanda was going to start her psychiatry class with us in January 2014 before we heard the terrible news. Although I did not meet Amanda, the more I read about her, the more tragic her loss becomes, and I cannot even fathom all the emotions experienced by her family and friends. So many empty days lie ahead without her smile but I pray that you can find some comfort in knowing she is with her Lord and she clearly had a powerful impact on those who knew her here.

To Amanda's family,
I was so shocked and saddened to hear of her passing. I tutored Amanda in the sensitive issues interviewing skills course. She was kind and smart and courageous. When I told the group that I was pro-life, she came to me later to tell me that she had the same convictions and thanked me. I am so sorry for the incredible pain that you are experiencing right now, but I am so grateful to know that I will see her again in heaven. May the God of all comfort be close to you as you grieve.

Dear John, Lottie & Family,
We were deeply saddened to hear of the tragic passing of your precious granddaughter, Amanda. It seems she packed a lot of living into her 23 years and was a beautiful, vibrant testimony of God's love. We, too, know the shock and pain of losing someone young, unexpectedly. It is hard to understand the "Why".... so please lean on the "Who", that is God. Without Him, where would our hope and peace be? May God surround you with His love and carry you through these difficult days. Our thoughts and prayers are with your whole family.
Sincerely, Samuel & Sandra Hodgson & Family

Dear Sharon, Debra, Jenna and John. My thoughts are with you in these difficult times. My research group at Queen's had the privilege to share precious times with Amanda when she was a volunteer with us (2010-2011) and a vibrant participant to our group activities. We will all fondly remember her refreshing and caring attitude, and how we felt boosted with energy and hope after interacting with her. I personally looked forward to seeing her in group meetings, just for the sheer joyful and inspiring attitude she brought. I am sure the other group members also felt how much energy and love she radiated. Truly a beautiful person and spirit who will be greatly missed. I have no doubt we will all carry some of her beautiful flame in our hearts, along our paths. With my most sincere sympathy.

I had the honor of teaching Amanda while she attended Eastview S.S. and her strong example of kindness, hardwork and passion made the school a better place. Her smile was infectious, the classroom and hallways always felt more welcoming and alive when she was there. I cannot image how hard this is for your family but please know we are all better people for having known her.

Dear John and Family:

Although I never knew Amanda, and lost contact with you (John) many years ago, my deepest thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. I celebrate with you the fact that Amanda's relationship with Jesus Christ means her loss, while painful and tragic, is only temporary.

To the Kelsall family:
Amanda added such spirit to our MD Class of 2016. She was a brilliant, beautiful, and one-of-a-kind young woman with such a zest for life. Her passion and faith always remained strong, even in the toughest situations. There is an emptiness looming over our medical class as we remember our dear friend and colleague. She will forever be apart of our class and the medical community - she taught us compassion beyond any medical textbook or lecture; I am forever grateful to have been graced by her presence. Thinking of you during this difficult time. May she rest in peace.
