Peacefully at home on December 21, at the age of 57 after a brief illness. Beloved husband and best friend of Lesia Zalusky for 31 years, and cherished father of Lara (Jean- Michel), Eric (Sarah) and Stefan. Dear son of Gaëtan Lalonde and Georgette Lalonde (née Roy), brother to Paul (Diane) and Gisèle (Yves), brother in-law to Nadia, Katrusia (Joe), and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his family and life- long friends. André was a professor of mineralogy in the department of Earth Sciences at the University of Ottawa where he taught since 1985. He recently completed a 5 year term as dean of the Faculty of Science, during which time the faculty prospered under his dedicated leadership. Throughout his accomplished career, he received many accolades in appreciation of his teaching excellence and research. The mineral lalondeite was named in André's honour by the International Mineralogical Association in recognition of his contribution to the mineralogical sciences. He never forgot, and was grateful to the many mentors who helped him throughout his career. He was an enthusiastic and considerate man with strong ethics. His perseverance inspired both students and colleagues from near, far and wide. His greatest pride, joy and comfort came from his family life. He instilled in his children his love of backyard astronomy, the great outdoors and the far North. Those who knew and loved André will remember him for his kindness, honesty and vivacious spirit. An immense thank you to all our friends who have stood by our side during these past months. A special thanks to Jacques Bradwejn for his constant and reassuring presence. Thanks to the home care team of the CLSC Vallée de la Lièvre, in particularly Dr. Jean-François Séguin for his compassionate care. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of André's life, which will be held on Friday, December 28 at 11:00 at the Coopérative funéraire de l'Outaouais, 1369 boul. La Vérendrye Ouest in Gatineau. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the
