very sorry to hear of my Uncle Dan's passing. I remember as a child going to visit him and Aunt Wilhemina at the farm. They always had baby ducks in the kitchen. I am glad Uncle Dan was able to live a long life although I am sorry to have never had the opportunity to really get to know him after my father (his brother) died. Rest in peace, Uncle Dan, and say hi to mom and dad for me. Tell them I miss them. Your niece Sandra Elizabeth Scharfe (Spencer)

I enjoyed meeting Daniel and having all our visits. We both liked talking about teaching and he showed me all his old daily planners. He was a wise and fair man. He had done business with my father and they respected each other. I liked that.

It was back in 1969 at Ridgemont High School when I first walked into Dan Scharf's auto class. The things that I learned from him are still with me today ... the love of cars and all things mechanical. His classes were often the highlight of the school day for me. In my graduating year and before I headed off to university Dan helped me install a re-built engine in my 1951 Chevrolet, an engine that was plucked from an old pickup truck from the Scharf farm. Working with him, learning from him, was always a joy! He always had an enthusiasm for teaching and a great support for his students. He will be missed. Condolensces to his family.

I was sorry to hear that Daniel had passed away. I met him many years ago. I missed hearing from him in March this year. He was a very interesting person to visit with. He brought some of the chapters of the book he had written for me to read. It was very well written and I enjoyed it very much. My deepest sympathy to you Shirley Ann and your family. He spoke of you and your family every time I met with him. May he rest in peace.

We express our deepest sympathy to Shirley Ann and family. Daniel was a special person, and neighbour. He was always willing to lend a hand when it came to school work. He will be sadly missed.

Rural Ottawa South Support Services staff and drivers would like to send our condolences to Shirley Ann and her family. Our drivers enjoyed getting to know Dan over the past few years. His keen sense of humour, incredible knowledge, and genuine personality made it very easy to find drivers to drive him to his appointments. Dan will be missed by all of us.
