WOOD, David Philip William
Passed away peacefully on January 11, 2013 at age 86 with his loving family watching over him. David was the cherished husband to Jean for more than 60 years, loving father to Mark, Karen and Barb (Sandy) and loving grandfather to Kirsty and Finlay. Predeceased by his parents Edith and Philip and his sister Dinah. Will be sadly missed by his best friend Bob, brother-in-law Chip and sister-in-law Patricia. David was an energetic, curious and loving soul. His love of people, pets, good conversation, music and humour were cherished by all. He savoured his days of flying at the Carp Airport, his creation of homemade wine, winters in Florida and motorhome holidays. As a teenager, David joined the Toronto Police Cadets and was nicknamed Flash on the Police Track and Field Team. He began his military career at age 18 and graduated from the University of Toronto in 1952 as a Mechanical Engineer. He was a proud member of RCEME. David enjoyed four years as the commanding officer of the Governor-General's Foot Guards and was awarded the Canadian Centennial Medal in 1967 for his outstanding services. David transferred to a civilian occupation and worked for the Federal Government predominantly for the Department of Industry, Trade and Commerce. He enjoyed four years with Canadair which required considerable international travel. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road (between Baseline and Bayshore) at 11am followed by a service at 12pm in the chapel. A reception will follow in the Maple Terrace Room at the funeral home. Burial to take place at Highland Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the Ottawa Heart Institute (www.ottawaheart.ca) would be greatly appreciated. Condolences, tributes and donations may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com
