GODKIN, Dorothy Iva (née Thompson)
Peacefully, Thursday, February 21, 2013, at the age of 86 years. Daughter of the late Ivan and Kate Thompson of Kingston, ON. Beloved wife of Donald J. Godkin. Dear mother of Ronald W. (Sharon) and Elizabeth (Beth) A. Butterfield (late Steward). Grandmother of 4 grandchildren: Michael (Allison), Crispin (Vladimir Braunstajn), David (Crystal) and Robin; also 5 great-grandchildren: Hailey, Cheyenne, Kya, Ashton and Cade. Predeceased by her brother Clare and her sisters Betty and Reta. Survived by sisters Gertie (Denis Lachance), Alice (Ronald Anthony), Muriel (late Arnold McMillan) and brother Eldon.
Iva's career began in the Kingston area, employed by H.L. Soloman Chartered Accountant, and later by Doretta Dress Apparel, both as a bookkeeper. Following Iva's marriage to Don, they moved to Ottawa, Soest (Germany) and returned to Ottawa. There Iva was employed with Alvin Enterprises, Manor Park, as a bookkeeper. For many years, she was a Brownie and Girl Guide leader with the Girl Guides of Canada. Throughout her life, Iva had a strong Christian faith with the Lord. For numerous years she was a board member and bookkeeper, assisting the church treasurer at Arlington Woods Free Methodist Church. Iva's skills were utilized throughout the construction of their new church building, and also later with the expansion program. Her organizing abilities were often called upon for church events, dinners and banquets. She also enjoyed her enjoyment with the Christian Businesswomen's Association. Thanks to the doctors and nursing staff who cared for her. Mom will be missed by her loving family and all who knew her. Rev. Stephen Bond, Kingston West Free Methodist Church officiating.
