Died suddenly in Hull, Quebec, in his 65th year. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he leaves behind his loving wife of 43 years Carol (née Stein) and his three children; Lisa (Craig Osborne), Melanie (Randy Côté), Darryl (Krista) and his six precious grandchildren Nathaniel, Noah, Kaitlyn, Lindsay, Avery and Camille. He is predeceased by his parents Tom and Gisele Mathers and two brothers Gordon and Little Tommy. He will be sadly missed by siblings Helen Mathers, Susan Ross, Sharon Lesniowska, Keith Mathers, Cathy Wall and many nieces and nephews. An avid outdoorsman and golfer, he reconnected with his hometown roots after retiring from Inco's Copper Cliff Refinery in 2001 and relocated to Calumet Island, Quebec, full-time in 2007. He will be sadly missed by many at the Oaks of Cobden Golf Club and by his beloved canine friend, Fargo. An honest and hard-working man, Garry battled several health issues over the years. However, he relied on his sense of humour and the love of his family to help maintain a positive outlook on life. Visitations will be held at the Ringrose Funeral Home, 3 Ringrose Street, in Campbell's Bay on Tuesday February 26 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 pm, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. Funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. in funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the memory of Garry to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
