Passed away peacefully on Friday, January 18th, 2013 at the age of 94 at St. Vincent Hospital. Predeceased by her husband Jim, her parents Edith and Clarence Gunter from Vancouver, B.C. and her brother Allan Gunter from Medicine Hat, Alberta. She will be sadly missed by her loving son Bob (Bonnie) and her loving grandchildren Colin, Laura and Shanna whom she cherished and always greeted with a warm happy smile. Her kindness, love, and devotion as a loving mother and grandmother will always be remembered. Hazel spent over 10 years working in the Federal Government and was retired from the Foreign Investment Review Agency. Hazel enjoyed a wonderful retirement with Jim and her family which included many memorable winters spent in Barbados with friends and family. Hazel was an avid bridge player and always looked forward to a game of bridge with her longstanding bridge club friends as well as her friends at Oakpark Retirement Residence. She is fondly remembered by her nieces and their families in Calgary (Sandy & Tom McMeekin), Medicine Hat (Joan & Rod McMillan) and Vancouver (Betty Gunter). A special thanks to the staff at Oakpark Retirement Residence where she enjoyed living for the last four years. She appreciated and enjoyed the companionship of many of the residents. Thanks also to the staff of the General and Civic Campuses of the Ottawa Hospital for their excellent care. Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O'Connor) on Saturday, January 26th from 10:00 a.m. until the service in the Chapel at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to The Ottawa Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
