SUTHERLAND, Hugh J.
P. Eng.
On New Year's Day our cherished HJ lost his 25 month battle with cancer at the age of 79. He will be missed forever by his loving wife of the past 26 years, Isabelle (nee Lefebvre). He was the proud father of four girls; Linda Beaudry, Kathryn Sutherland, Nancy Sutherland (Jamie Best) of Ottawa and Tracy Sutherland (Malcolm Gilchrist) of Calgary. He is also mourned by Isabelle's children Marc Trudel (Brigitte Giasson), Mylène Trudel (André Moisan) and François Trudel (Kelly McKay) all of Montreal. Hugh was very close to his 15 grandchildren. He always encouraged them and was very proud of their many accomplishments. Hugh will be missed by his sister Ann (Peter Westwood) of Vancouver, B.C. and their four children. He will also be remembered by his first wife Marjorie Sutherland. Hugh received his degree in Civil Engineering in 1956 from McGill University. He worked on the St. Lawrence Seaway Project and for the City of Brockville. Hugh joined the Beaver Group of Companies in Ottawa in 1963. He always loved his work and his colleagues. Hugh was a founding member of the Ottawa Valley Sporting House and long time member of the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club. Hugh always liked to say he retired early to become a ski bum and was very successful at it. Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O'Connor) Saturday, January 5th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation
are appreciated.
