HOWARD, Irene Mary (nee Cottell)
Irene Mary Howard passed away peacefully in her sleep early Monday, December 24, 2012 at the age of 87. She was born on September 5, 1925. Irene was the only child of the late Harold and Elsie Cottell of Montreal and Ottawa. She was the loving mother of Russell (Pamela) of Nelson, BC., Kenneth (Shirley) of Sherwood Park, AB., and Norman (Cathy) of Ottawa. She was the beloved grandmother of Daniel, David, and Olivia Howard of Ottawa, and Fuchsia Howard (Greg) of Vancouver, BC.; and great-grandmother to Cielle Haljan, Vancouver. Always smiling and cheerful, Irene was a kind and gentle soul, as well as a talented artist. She enjoyed her family, as well as reading, ballet, figure skating and curling. She was employed at Carleton University for twenty years until her retirement in 1986. Cremation has taken place and internment will follow in the Spring. Thanks to the staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital. Donations can be made in Irene's memory to The Canadian Diabetes Assoc. or to The Heart & Stroke Institute. "No one could be more loving, she was thoughtful, her actions were always for others. To know her is to be blessed. A lady to treasure."
