Passed away at the Perley and Rideau Veterans' Health Centre, Ottawa, on Wednesday, December 19th, 2012. Jamie was born in Grand Cascapedia, (Gaspé), Quebec, on August 19th, 1915, the youngest of three children of Alvin and Agnes Barter. He is predeceased by his brother, Wesley Barter and his sister, Ada McKinley. Loving husband of Dorothy Burton Barter, deceased (2003). Beloved father of Wendy (Ken) Carruthers and Greg (Muriel) Barter. Grandfather of Gillian (Shane Higginbottom) Barter, Kirstin Barter and Neil Barter and great-grandfather to Aidan Barter. Jamie taught school in one- room school houses in the Gaspé – including New Richmond – where he met his future wife, Dorothy Burton. After their marriage in 1937, he taught in Portage du Fort, Quebec, before joining the Federal Public Service (Treasury Department) in Ottawa, Ontario, where he worked for 35 years prior to his retirement. He was a WWII (Royal Canadian Navy) veteran. His work with the government as a Treasury Officer included multi-year postings in London, England, and Lahr, Germany, where he and Dorothy had many wonderful trips throughout Britain and Europe. Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry 315 McLeod St. (at O'Connor) on Saturday, December 22nd from 1 – 2:30pm. Funeral Service will follow in the chapel at 2:30pm. Memorial Donations can be made to the Perley and Rideau Veterans' Health Centre.
