LAPIERRE, The Honourable Laurier Lucien

Officer of the Order of Canada
At Ottawa's Civic Hospital from a pulmonary embolism on Sunday, 16 December 2012 at the age of 83. He was the loving partner of Harvey Slack. Father of Dominic and Thomas and father-in-law of Laura Auerbach and Cary Lawrence. Grandfather of Paige, Alex, Georgia, Toby and Owen LaPierre. Former husband of Paula (Jo) Armstrong. A professor of history, author of numerous books, television host, broadcaster, Chairman of Telefilm Canada and Canadian Senator from 2001 to 2004, Laurier was passionate about Canada and everyone he knew. Family and friends will miss him, yet we are comforted that he lived life to its fullest and accomplished so much. We love you Laurier, and as you so often said, "Vive Le Canada!" Family and friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O'Connor), Ottawa on Friday, January 11 from 6-9pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica, Sussex at Guigues, Ottawa on Saturday, January 12 at 11am. If you would like to make a donation in memory of Laurier, please consider the Historica-Dominion Institute's program, Encounters With Canada, in which Laurier was active.
