KERR, Lillian Emily July 26, 1920 - April 23, 2018 Lillian Kerr (Westwood) born to Alfred and Winifred Westwood of Greenwich, London passed away peacefully on Monday, April 23, 2018 at the age of 97, with family by her side. Born the eldest of four siblings (Rose, Fred, and Dorothy) Lillian grew up in Greenwich, London. During the war, she met and married, P/O Lewis Burpee of Ottawa. Sadly, he was killed May 17, 1943 when his RAF Lancaster crashed as part of the 'Dambuster' raid. Lillian came to Ottawa in the summer of that year, a war widow and expecting her first child. She settled in Ottawa with the family of her late husband. Although she claimed to be a devout Londoner, Lillian remained, with her son Lewis (Maureen), in Ottawa where she met and in 1951, married Ellis Kerr, a war veteran and chief photographer at the National Gallery of Canada. Their home on Bayswater Ave, where she lived for 58 years, was the scene of many legendary parties in the 60s. Never one to sit still, Lillian had a 30 year career as the office manager for Dr. Herbert Metcalfe and, upon retirement, volunteered with various charities. In the 70s Lillian became "Nanny" to her three grandchildren; Adam (Sarah), Carly (Aaron), and Christopher. Being a grandmother suited Lillian and she was often heard saying "you can't spoil a child by loving them" while feeding her grandchildren copious amounts of junk food. As time progressed, she became a great-grandmother to Nathaniel, Danika, Adelia and Arthur. Thank you to the staff of the Westwood for their kindness and care in recent years. Lillian will be forever treasured and greatly missed by her family. There will be a private interment and Celebration of Life for family and close friends. As Lillian was passionate about animals and a loyal supporter of the Humane Society, donations instead of flowers can be made to the humane society.
