KITCHEN, Lillian Newcombe
(nee Kerr)
1920 - 2013
Our beloved Mum and Grannie passed away on January 12, 2013, after a long illness. Born December 2, 1920, to the late George and Beatrice Kerr, she was predeceased by her seven siblings and her devoted husband, Ron Kitchen. She is survived by her children Jean, Robin (Christine) and Marian, grandchildren Laila Reis (Todd), Arthur Matson (Doireann), Reena Sattar, and Fiona and Tristan Vincent-Kitchen, as well as five great-granddaughters. Born and raised in Toronto, Lil married her childhood sweetheart Ron in 1942 as he joined the RCAF, and then spent many years living the peripatetic life of an armed forces wife. She coped amazingly with the constant moving and was always the calm, loving epicentre of the whole family. Fond of reading, long walks and antique hunting, she might also be found hanging wallpaper, fixing the toaster or whipping out a brace of fabulous pies. On Ron's retirement they settled in Blossom Park, Gloucester, and Lil became active in volunteer work, notably with the Gloucester Historical Society, and also worked at the Gloucester and Ottawa public libraries. Her ongoing contributions to local good works earned her a Canada 125 medal in 1992. Her final years were spent living at Billings Lodge, Ottawa, and the family is abundantly grateful for the loving care and support she received there. Friends are invited to
