Lorne MCCARTNEY Obituary

Published by Ottawa Citizen from Jan. 30 to Feb. 1, 2016.
McCARTNEY, Lorne Robert
Lorne Robert McCartney, 68, of Kanata passed away at the Queensway Carleton Hospital on January 28, 2016 after a hard-fought battle with lung disease. Lorne was the beloved husband of Norma, sadly missed father of Jason, Mark (Kelly), and Carla, and proud Ottawa Grandpa of Brooke and Jack. He is survived by his two sisters, Lee Ann (George) and Nancy (Wayne). Lorne was a larger than life character, innovative thinker, inventor and passionate, tireless advocate for the right of our veterans. According to Lorne's wishes, a service with immediate family members only has been held. Very special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Queensway Carleton Hospital for their excellent care during his final journey. If you wish to make a donation in Lorne's name, please consider the Lung Association. Please raise a glass for Lorne at your Legion and support our veterans. Lorne did not believe in life after death; he believed in life before death. Lorne lives on in our hearts and minds, in the memories of those who remain; Lorne's family and friends, and in his accomplishments. We laughed over the years about Borden/Meaford; the Chevy [fill the oil, check the gas]; haircuts; St. Hubert; the Porsche with the VW engine; Lake Connely and those email links. I do miss Lorne.

Norma, I remember when you and Lorne first joined our circle of friends in Lahr, Germany. I met Lorne when I was at RMC and he was at CMR and we played football against each other. It was tough. Anyways, I think Lorne was the inventor of the beanbag chairs you had in your house and noone can forget the mitwarmers. Tonight we definitely raised a glass in his memory. Raise a glass and Cheers. The smile is still there.

My sincere condolences to you and your family Norma upon the passing of Lorne. Although it's been years since I last saw him, I kept abreast of what was going on his life through my brother Richard. Now they're both gone and may have already met up once again. I will always remember Lorne, his parents and sisters from both our Lake Connelly days as well as his days on Braebrook. May the good memories of him sustain you during this time of sorrow.
Kind regards

Dear Norma and family, Our most sincere sympathies on Lorne's passing. We fondly remember our days together, dancing in Borden and, especially, enjoying Lorne's wonderful deep-fried turkey long before it became popular! We met again briefly in Ottawa and, sadly, lost touch. Lorne was definitely a "mover and shaker" and an unforgettable person who leaves a fine legacy! Our sincere condolences to you all.

Condolences to Lorne's family. I had the pleasure of meeting Lorne on the squash courts in Lahr, Germany during the late seventies. He was a fierce but fair competitor and one of the most positive guys I've ever met. I regret that I was unable to reconnect with Lorne and very sad to hear of his passing.
Kindest regards,
Nathan

My Sincerest Wishes and Condolences to Dear Norma , Family & Friends . Lorne & I lived on Fayolle Avenue and grew up from Kindergarden at Crawford Park Elementary to graduation at Verdun High School. We met up throughout the ages including my working with his Mom as a student and graduate nurse at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. I adorned his Mom and we shared many fond memories of her. Then through e mail we met up again. I will always respect and cherish Lorne as a True Friend to All . Sincerely Liz Storey

I attended Verdun High school with Lorne where we both played football. We also were team mates on a provincial championship team in Verdun and found ourselves on opposite sides of the ball while Lorne was at CMR in St. Jean and I was at MacDonald College. Lorne was a great team mate, a gifted athlete, a wonderful and loyal friend, and a great all around person. He was unable to attend our recent high school reunion, but was remembered fondly by all who were there. He touched the lives of so many people and served as a positive role model for all of us. He will be missed, but will always be remembered with a smile and warm memories. Thank you, Lorne, for being a friend.

January 30, 2016

Our deepest thoughts and sympathy to Lorne's wife and family at this time.
We had the privilege and honor to have known Lorne through ANAVETS for many years.
He was a man who would help anyone at any time, specially a vet or a friend.
Rest in peace our friend and we will all raise a glass in your memory.
