AHEARN, Mary Florence (McCarthy) It is with sadness that the Ahearn family announces the death of Florence Ahearn on December 26, 2009 at the age of 92. She was a wonderful mother to her 8 children: Maureen (Jean Jacques Blais), Janet (Roy Rolstone) in Victoria, Michael (Peggy Brazier) Toronto, John (Joanne Kucher), Mary (Donald Ray), Patrick (Patricia Keohane), Margaret (Ted Vick) and Kathy (Bob Wilson) in Olds Alberta. There are 21 grandchildren: Stephane, Alexandre and Marie Jose Blais; Derek and Jason Rolstone; Jennifer and Ted Ahearn; Shelagh and Kevin Ahearn; Nancy, John and Jody Russell; Brendan, Daniel and Kelly Ray; Graham and Heather Ahearn; Gregory and Brendan Vick; and Laure and David Wilson; and 16 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Ed Ahearn who died in 1971. Florence McCarthy was born in Schreiber Ontario in 1917. She was the daughter of Francis McCarthy and Amanda Finlan, and sister to Jack McCarthy. She attended Sillery College in Quebec City and the University of Toronto where she met Edward Ahearn and they were married at Newman Chapel in 1941. Ed operated Ahearn's Drug Store on Somerset St.West. They were involved in Saint Mary's Church for many years and then Immaculate Heart of Mary. Florence traveled widely and was always interested in reading, music, her church and volunteer work. She loved football and hockey. Her legacy of love and commitment lives on through her children and their children. The family expresses their thanks to the staff at Billings Lodge and St Patrick's Home for their professional care. Friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home 585 Somerset Street (Centretown) Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Funeral Wednesday to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for Mass of Christian Funeral at 11:00 am (Alta Vista Dr.). Donations to the Shepherds of Good Hope in lieu of flowers....
