It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Walli on December 19, 2012. The eldest of seven siblings, Mary was born in Dar es Salaam in the British East African Colony of Tanganyika. Upon reaching adulthood she moved to Bath, England, to pursue midwifery and nursing and eventually moved to Ottawa to join her family who had immigrated to Canada. She completed a Bachelor of Sciences in Nursing from the University of Ottawa and went on to have a 38-year long career in nursing at the Ottawa General Hospital in Obstetrics and then in the surgical theatres. She had a remarkable character and cared for her friends and her family with whom she was very close. Her appreciation for the finer things in life, her entertaining personality, and her enigmatic sense of humour were the traits that helped endear her to loved ones. While a fervent health and fitness enthusiast, shortly after retirement Mary unfortunately developed a health concern that marked her final year. She was predeceased by her parents Simone Agnes (nee Mein) and A.C. Walli, and her brother Phillip who passed away in childhood. Always full of life and energy to the very end, she will be lovingly remembered by her siblings Jocelyn (Serge Côté), Margaret (Mario Chessa), Jim, George and Lorna, as well as her nieces and nephews Lorna Côté (Nelson Greidanus), Paul Côté (Tara Cake), Melanie Côté, Sarah Côté (David Lechelt), David Côté, Eleanora Chessa (Alex Francois) and Nicolas Chessa and her great nieces and nephews Matthew Greidanus, Alexandra Greidanus, Joshua Greidanus, Zachary Greidanus, Noah Lechelt, Nicholas Lechelt, Nathan Lechelt, Olivia Côté and Adrian Francois. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, December 27 at 12 noon, at the Pinecrest Remebrance Chapel (2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa.) Online condolences can be made
