OLINIK, Mervin George
On December 3, 2014, Mervin George Olinik passed away peacefully in the arms of his beloved wife Joan of 49 years, surrounded by his loving family. Merv is survived by his son Mervin (Isla) and his daughter Catherine McLaughlin (Terry) and is Poppa to Collin, Tyler, Charlotte, Lindsey, Bryan and Emily. Merv is also survived by his sisters Janice Moorey (Richard), Marlene Dominick (Walter), Colleen Girard (Jacques) and his brother Colin (Lorraine). Merv is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews and Merv was predeceased by his parents Colin and Mary. Merv proudly served Canada, his country for 37 years as a dedicated member of the Canadian Armed Forces and 16 years 10 months at DND as a civilian employee. A Celebration of Merv's Life will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Parkway Pentecostal Church, 7275 Parkway Road, Greely, Ont. Visitation is from 12 noon to 2 p.m. The Memorial Service is from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and a Reception from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Merv requested that donations be made to the Ottawa Hospital General Campus Colorectal Cancer Assessment Centre (CAC), Bethel Pentecostal Church, Box 815, Smiths Falls, Ontario K7A 4W7, Ottawa Humane Society of Ottawa, or the charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank all of the dedicated doctors, nurses and entire staff at the Ottawa Cancer Clinic, the staff of the 5th Floor East Oncology Unit, and the staff of the 7th Floor West Surgery. Merv received the best and kindest care and treatment from the entire staff.
