NOLTING, Mr. Ralph
1959 – 2012
With great sorrow, the family announces the unexpected passing of Ralph Nolting at St. Vincent's Hospital, on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at the age of 53. Ralph was the beloved son of Heinz Nolting and the Late Edelgard Nolting predeceased on October 31, 2012. A veteran Machinist at The Canadian Space Agency in St. Hubert, Quebec, Ralph loved his work and the friendships he forged. Ralph will always be remembered for his passion of sailing, growing up competing out of the Britannia Yacht Club. With great determination, Ralph fought many health challenges, and thanks to close friends Bill Fuller, Kelly Lyon, and a Program called Able Sail (with its staff and many volunteers) Ralph was able to recapture his dream again which gave him a sense of purpose in his last year. Ralph had also joined the Disabled Curling Association at the RA Centre which he too loved. A committed son and a loyal friend, Ralph will always be remembered for his warm, genuine smile and his positive infectious optimism. A special "Thank You" to the many friends at the Britannia Yacht Club for serving as his home away from home, to the friends at Nepean Yacht Club Able Sail Club Program, to the Curling Group which he looked so forward to each week, and to his committed friends at the Canadian Space Agency who maintained their contact with Ralph. Extra special thanks go out to Gilles & Johanne Martel and their daughter, Melanie, for being there when he was hospitalized in Montreal, to Kelly Lyon, the Fuller Family, to Bill Fuller for his fierce loyalty and commitment to a lifelong friendship, and finally, to Bill's children who filled Ralph's heart with love. We would also like to thank the staff and volunteers at St. Vincent's Hospital for such great care as well as his personal physiotherapist, Elly Bruner. Ralph will be missed, but the smile will never be forgotten. Today Ralph is unbound by his earthly chains and is walking hand in hand in the Lord's Garden with the mother he loved so very much. A Celebration of Ralph's life will take place on the lower level of the Britannia Yacht Club, 2777 Cassels St. (613) 828-5167 in Ottawa, on Sunday, December 2nd at 1:00 p.m. Wheelchairs are welcome. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Ralph Nolting Memorial Fund, c/o the National Capital Able Sail Association, attention: Dorn Roche, Treasurer NCASA, 728 Fielding Drive, Ottawa, ON K1V 7G5.
