MARTINEAU, Monsignor Robert Francis
In hospital on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 aged 76 years, son of the late Katherine Ryan and Frank Martineau. Dear brother of Eileen and the late Ulric "Bud" Martineau (the late Helen). Dear uncle of Brian, Jackie, Kathy, Michelle, Frances, Bob, Michael, Jeffrey, Laura, Chris, Courtney and Brandon and great nieces and nephews. Fondly remembered by former parishioners and many friends especially Mrs. Peggy Gregoire. Monsignor was ordained to the priesthood on June 12, 1962 at St. Mary's Parish. First appointed to Our Lady of Fatima Parish, he later served as Pastor at
St. Isidore's, St. Ignatius, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Augustine's and
Our Lady of Fatima Parishes. In 1999, he was appointed Rector at Saint Patrick's Basilica from which he retired in 2009. Monsignor served on many diocesan committees and as chaplain to Knights of Columbus Councils and others throughout his priesthood. In 1997, he was awarded the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Cross and in 1999, named a Prelate of Honour to His Holiness.
Friends may pay their respects on Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Saint Patrick's Basilica,
220 Kent Street. Concelebrated Funeral Mass presided by Archbishop Terrence Prendergast, S.J. will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Interment Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery, Montreal, Quebec on Monday at 11:00 a.m. In memoriam donations to Saint Patrick's Basilica Restoration Fund would be appreciated.
