MATHESON, Roderick James Rod passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the age of 82. Beloved husband and best friend to his sweetie, Laraine (Johnson). Predeceased by brother Eoin and first wife Bonnie. Brother-in-law of Katherine Matheson and Millie Jonsson. Proud uncle of John (Laurie) Matheson, Susan (Benoît) Cousineau, Eoin (Anita) Matheson and Janet (Tom) Greene. Loving stepfather of Kristen (John) Chew and Jennifer Pederson. Cherished Poppy to Becky, Anna, Owen, Jamie and Liam, great-grandfather to Esmée. He will be greatly missed by his extended family and friends. Rod graduated Queens University and had an exemplary career as a teacher at Laurentian High School. He was a Life Member, past president, and curling champion at the Ottawa Curling Club, and a longtime member of the Royal Ottawa Golf Club. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 19, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, 971 Woodroffe Ave., followed by a Celebration of Life at the Ottawa Curling Club, 440 O'Connor St. All family and friends welcome. Laraine sends special thanks to Drs. Bence-Bruckler, Faught and Wa, and Nurse Nicholas of the Ottawa General Hospital Hematology Unit for their kindness and compassionate care.
