GAYLE, Syvelyn L.
"Island girl" Syvelyn Lacressa Gayle - an unshakable believer in her beloved Jamaica - passed away peacefully November 27, 2016 at the age of 78. Sylvie is survived by her sisters May Fagan, Mildred Brown-Wallace, Lizabel Gayle, her many nieces and nephews, along with countless friends and colleagues. She was predeceased by parents Rachel and Richard Gayle, sisters Bernice, Hermine and twin brother Eden. Syvelyn was a special devoted caregiver for her mother Rachel, a long-time congregant of Parkwood Presbyterian Church, and a dedicated (retired) federal public servant (for which she received accreditation for long service). Many thanks go out to the medical care staff, Wesley Brown, Mildred Brown-Wallace and Pastor James Hurd. Friends are invited to pay their respects at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Ave. (at Richmond Rd.) on Friday, December 9 (2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.). Memorial Service will be held at Parkwood Presbyterian Church, 10 Chesterton Drive, on Saturday, December 10 at 10 a.m. Along with floral donations, expressions of sympathy can be made to Sickle Cell Disease Association of Canada or Jamaican Self-Help.
