SKILANDZIUNAS, Rev. Victor

Fr. Victor Skilandziunas passed away on Sunday, February 24th, 2013 in his 94th year. Born on May 3rd, 1919 in Sakiai, Lithuania and was ordained to the priesthood on May 7th, 1944 in Vilkaviskis, Lithuania. Father Victor served in the Diocese of Ottawa as Assistant Pastor and Pastor Administrator from 1954 to 1970. From the years of 1972 to 1984 he served as Co-ordinating Prison Chaplain at the Ottawa Carleton Detention Centre, Rideau Correctional Centre and Perth Jail. Father Victor also served as the Chaplain of the Lithuanian Canadian Community in Ottawa. Survived by his brother Pranas (Aldona), nephews, Victor (Teresa), Frank (Vida) all of the General Toronto Area, Vytautas (Daiva) in Lithuania, nieces, Loretta (Dave) and Birute of the GTA. Predeceased by his brothers, Vladas, Juozas, sister Maryte and nephew Leonas (surviving Albina) of Lithuania. Family and friends may pay respects on Tuesday, February 26th, 2013 from 6 to 9 p.m. at St. Jean Baptiste Church, 96 Empress Avenue in Ottawa. Funeral Mass at St. Jean Baptiste Church on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. Funeral Mass at the Lithuanian Martyrs Church, 494 Isabella Ave., Mississauga, Ont., on Saturday, March 2nd, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at St. John's Lithuanian Cemetery in Mississauga.
