ISAACS, William Roy
Retired RCMP and CSIS
On June 7, Roy lost the battle with Melanoma cancer. He was on the doorstep of turning 76. The most recent precious gifts in his life were his three grandchildren, Justin, Adam and Alison, all in their fourth year. Whenever they were around he just glowed. He left behind son Chris (predeceased) and wife Jocelyne (nee Gladu), Julie (Andy Leclair), Ed (Nathalie) and Jen (JC Gagne). Born in Burin, Nfld, he was the eldest of Helen (predeceased) Margaret (Ralph), Lillian (Keith), Joan (Mick), Reg (Margaret) and Gail (Wayne). Roy was well-known in SloPitch circles as he created the first Ottawa Nepean SloPitch League (ONSPL) in 1981. He then brought the SloPitch National (SPN) program to Ottawa in 1990. He was inducted into the SPN Hall of Fame in Toronto for his tireless work in 2008 in the Builder category. Roy and his buddy Al Moulton (his Chief Umpire) ran countless tournaments over the span of twenty six years. Just two weeks ago Roy was the first honoured member to be inducted into the Slopitch.com Hall of Fame. For 26 years he thrived to better the system and enjoyed the camaraderie of talking to and rubbing elbows with the players. He was Mr SloPitch! Roy built the empire of SloPitch from the ground up and enjoyed every minute of it. He will be missed by many who knew him. We would like to thank Dr. H. McDonald, Dr. P. Hamilton and Dr. R. Tuli for all their help and support over the years. Thanks to the staff at Queensway Carleton Hospital in C4.
