McDONALD, Alfred Ferland CD., SSM., B.A. Son of George V. McDonald and Ruth Therese Ferland. One of eight encouraging brothers and three supportive sisters. Remembered by his loving wife Madeleine and children; Tess MacLean, Helen (Dean Donaldson), Peter (Deborah), Michael (Gillian), Anne-Marie (Alan Goodman) and Paul (Kim). A loving grandfather of 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Alfred stressed family values, education, religion, sportsmanship and camaraderie within his community and wherever possible assisted in its activities. He enjoyed a career in aviation spanning 43 years and enjoyed "High Flight", having slipped the surly bonds of earth as a member of the Golden Hawks; Guynemer Team; SPAADS & 412(T) Sqn. From 1974 until 1976, he flew with Air transit and from 1976 until 1991 he flew for Innotech Aviation captaining a Convair 580 on flying projects that involved: Ice Survey in the far north (lots of it there) and never did see the Northwest Passage open; Flew Project work for the ERIM in satellite studies of world crop inventories; oil geologies planned by Canadian scientists of the Remote Sensing Community and the Japanese Space Agency, for which Canada still receives Data from Japan's Satellite Program. Afterwards he was involved with the Knight's of Columbus and the many charities supported by them. He enjoyed golf, bridge and was a sometimes writer. Friends will be received by the family at the Kelly Funeral Home - Kanata Chapel, 580 Eagleson Road, Kanata on Wednesday, February 9th from 6-9pm. service in memory will be held at the Holy Redeemer Parish on Thursday, February 10th, 2011 at 11am with Father Pierre Champoux officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The Holy Redeemer Parish, The Canadian Heart Institute or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
