SIM, Norman David (B. Eng)
August 13, 1932 - March 11, 2014
Peacefully on Tuesday, March 11th, 2014 in his 82nd year. Lovingly married to Bernice (nee Wong) for 59 years. Devoted father of sons; Graham (Lynn), David (Elizabeth), Philip (Sheila) and late daughters Margo and Sandra. Proud grandfather of Yan, Natasha, Jessica, Wei, Andrea, and Michelle. Norman was the youngest of nine children born in Hull, Quebec to the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Sim. Brother to the late Jack (Rosina), Florence (late Winston), the late Harry (late Phyllis), Lucy (late Paul), Violet, Don (Phoebe), Paul, and the late Margaret (Edward). Norman graduated from McGill University with a degree in civil engineering. He was an avid alpine and cross country skier, tennis player, as well as a marathon runner until he suffered a spinal cord injury in 1984. With the loving and devoted care of his wife Bernice, he continued to live a full and active life of travel, learning, music, athletics, and as an active member of the peer support group of SCI Ontario. Our sincere thanks to CCAC, VHA and the many other caregivers who have stood by Norman and Bernice through the years and became family. A special expression of gratitude to Avril Bryan and Dr. Walter Potoczny who have supported our family for almost two decades. Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O'Connor) on Friday, March 14th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A private funeral service will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, March 15th at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Spinal Cord Injury Canada (http://sci-can.ca) or the Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Center would be gratefully appreciated (https:/ /www.ottawahospital.on.ca).
