Died, serenely, on April 12, 2014, a beautiful spring morning, in Arnprior Ontario: PHYLLIS TERESA MITCHELL (nee ROGERS) in her 94th year. Born February 27, 1921, in Lansdowne, Ontario, later of Vankleek Hill, Montreal, Mississauga, Kingston and Ottawa. She was predeceased in 2006 by her beloved husband of 65 years, Gifford, and her dear son, Stephen (2010). She was the cherished mother of Lannie (John) of Ottawa, David (Carol) of Arnprior, Stephen (Kathryn) of Boston, Holly (Bill) of Gananoque. She was the much loved grandmother of 12, great- grandmother of 7, a favourite aunt and a friend to all. Phyll obtained her B.A. from Queen's University in 1941. She worked at Bell Telephone Ottawa during WWII, before marrying in 1945 and supporting Giff's musical career in Montreal. Loved of God, an active and engaged citizen, well educated, well read, well travelled, well lived, her inquiring, sunny-hearted manner was a model for us all; she is deeply missed. Our thanks to Ottawa's Palisades Retirement Residence and Arnprior's Grove Nursing Home for their compassionate later-life care. All are welcome to attend a Memorial Service arranged for 2 p.m., Friday May 2, 2014 at
Kelly Funeral Home
585 Somerset Street West, Ottawa
as well as Interment (with Gifford's ashes) at Cataraqui Cemetery off Sydenham Road in Kingston at noon the following day, May 3. Memorial donations may be made to your charity of choice.
