PERRIN, George Ellis Perkins, B.A., CLU
May 4, 1923 - July 12, 2014
It is with great sadness we announce that after a short illness, our Dad passed away suddenly, but peacefully, at the Devonshire Retirement Residence. Predeceased by his beloved wife Elinor (nee Cutler) in 1992, sister Elethier (Pat) Madsen, sister-in-law Edna Cutler and brothers-in-law Tom Madsen and Robert Cutler. George will be greatly missed by his dear friend and companion of the last ten years, Joan Keane. Much loved father of Jane, Stittsville, David (Belinda), Calgary and Barbara (Scott Savage), Orleans. Cherished grandfather of Curtis (Audra), Strathmore AB, Emmett and Amelia, Orleans and great-grandfather of Braelynn, Strathmore. He will also be fondly remembered by nieces Susan (Cutler) Tremaine, Connecticut and Sandra (Cutler) Subic, Georgia. George was born and raised in Ottawa, attended the Ottawa Normal Model School and Lisgar Collegiate and graduated from Queen's University in 1949 after serving as an officer in the RCNVR (1943 - 1945). After graduation he entered the life insurance business as an estate planner. During his 67 years in business, he served as President of the Life Underwriters Association (Ottawa), Chartered Life Underwriters (Ottawa), founding Director of the Conference for Advanced Life Underwriting (CALU) and founder in 1952 of the Ottawa Estate Planning Council. George had a keen interest in community affairs, serving as President of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (Ottawa), President of the Queen's University Alumni Association (1972 - 1973), Junior Program Director at Red Pine Camp (1951 - 1965), a fifty year member of the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa and a trustee for twenty-five years of the Kiwanis Medical Foundation. The family will receive friends at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry 315 McLeod Street (at O'Connor) on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Reception following the Service. In memory of George and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arts '49 Principal Wallace Fellowship, Queen's University, Gift Services, Old Medical Building, 99 University Avenue, Kingston, ON K7L 3N6 or the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa Medical Foundation, 201-1283 Algoma Road, Ottawa, ON K1B 3W7. Our thanks to the staff on A3 and A4 at the Queensway Carleton Hospital and the Duke of Devonshire Retirement Residence. Also, a very special thank you to Anna DiMascio, whose long friendship and love for both our parents is so appreciated by us. Dad, your kindness, generosity, intelligence, wacky sense of humour and wonderful story telling will be very much missed by us all.
