WEEKS, Evelyn Mildred

Evelyn Mildred Weeks, age 97, passed away peacefully with her family by her side after a full life. Evelyn was born in Pleasant River, Nova Scotia, raised in Port Medway, NS, resided in Sydney, Cape Breton and Halifax during the war years, and Ottawa, Ontario for over 50 years. Predeceased by husband James "Jim" Weeks of North Sydney, NS, parents Selena Clattenburg (Lohnes) and Clayton Clattenburg, brothers Gerald (Ruby) and Lawrence Clattenburg. Survived by daughter Marianne, Chuck (Linda) Weeks, both of Ottawa, ON, and George and loving daughter-in-law Penny Weeks of Powell River, BC. Evelyn adored her grandchildren Lorna and James and great-grandchildren Roger and Oskar. Evelyn was determined as a young girl to become a nurse and graduated from the Yarmouth Hospital School of Nursing in 1939, working in Halifax and Philadelphia. After taking several years off to raise a family, she resumed nursing at the Civic Hospital in Ottawa until retirement. She spent many years travelling and volunteering and helped pioneer the Canadian Celiac Association. Evelyn was well known for her generosity, warm smile and happy demeanour, and she loved to have a good laugh. A heartfelt thanks to all her supportive and wonderful friends over the years, especially Joan and Joe Johnson and Cheryl Carroll who compassionately cared for Mom the past two years. Thanks also to the medical staff at Peter D. Clark Nursing Home and the ROH Geriatric wing. Finally at peace, thanks Mom. Memorial Service will be in St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church, 2112 Belair Dr., Ottawa on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a Reception. A Memorial Service and Interment in North Sydney, Cape Breton will be announced later.
