THORPE, John "Jack" Passed away Monday February 21st, 2011 at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, Ottawa, in his 85th year following a brief illness. Always to be remembered by his wife Patricia (Darling) of Ottawa, his children Lorraine of Indiana (Larry Allen), John Jeffrey of Montreal (Kay Harris), Murray of Ottawa, (Ben), Carolyn of Calgary (Mike Rinneard), and his four grandchildren Rob and J.P Arseneau, Sarah and Nigel Thorpe. Jack was born in Toronto, Ontario to Ben and Florence (Povey). Jack served in the RCAF (Flight Sergeant, 1944-1946). Trained as a pilot, commissioned Flying Officer, served 1946 to 1952. Later flew for Ayres Ltd in Lachute, Quebec, and the Flight Services Division, Federal Dept. of Transport, in Ottawa. Jack later volunteered his time in support of the Federal Aviation Museum in Rockcliffe, Ontario. An avid Fleet Canuck enthusiast, he and his cherished CF-DPZ continue to fly. He will never be without his wings. Friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home, 1255 Walkley Road (east of Bank) on Saturday, February 26th from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by a Memorial service in the Chapel at 4 p.m. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
