Aunt Connie, Nancy, Jackie and Jeff,
We were very saddened to hear about Uncle Howard's passing. While we know that words are only a small gesture of support, we want you to know that uncle Howard's spirit has touched many people's lives as it has ours. He not only left us with fond memories, but also with a sense of pride to be able to call him our uncle. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time.... and although you are loved and supported by many, we are always by your side.

Dear Darwin Family,
Howard leaves me with special memories. I lived upstairs at 1308 Wellington St. for many years. Getting home from school I would drop in and say hello to Howard and Joe. There was always a joke and an offer of a treat from the guys.
Later years I stopped at FRITZ Bee's and I saw Howard with one of the Boys. I went over to say hello and and ended sitting and talking with him for a good hour. Howard was asking me about my family as he knew them all.
What a GREAT MAN!!
Howard you will always be in our hearts and always on our minds.
Rest in peace.

To the Darwin Family: I last met Mr, Darwin at the Hallmark Card store last year. He did not know me but he knew my Late Dad Bernie. When I told him who I was his eyes opened up and said he remembered my Dad very well and he had remembered meeting me with my Dad at a 67's game many years ago. He was a warm caring man who loved this city and wanted the best for it. He will be sadly missed.

Dear Nancy,
I was so sorry to hear about the loss of your father. He was such a nice man. From the time Sue Wise and I opened Wellington Street News, he was a supportive presence, regularly stopping for a chat (and the Gazette) on his way to the Won Ton House for lunch, and wanting to know how things were going in his old space. He always made me feel that he was on our "retail" team.

Jeff&Family,
So sorry for your loss! Draw comfort in each other and embrace one another in God's love during this bittersweet time that you are experiencing together. In time the memories will make it easier.
It's been over 30 years Jeff since we've last connected, during the days of St. Ray's high school and you worked for your father at the local cable station on Richmond Road. I have always kept up with your father's great involvement with the community that he so loved, and his great legacy to sports. Our families and kin grew up together as children in Ottawa west playing hockey. Naming the civic centre in your dad's honour would be a great legacy for the good deeds that he accomplished in the community that he so humbly served and loved
Wamest Regards, your former schoolmate,
Gib and Lorraine Barlow

I grew up on Malone Cres. Childhood friends to Kim, Nancy, Jack, and Jeff. Lifelong and best friend to Jack. The Darwin house was always the hub of activity and I seemed to be near the epicentre most of the time. Mr Darwin introduced my dad and I to Prime Minister Diefenbaker at a closed circuit boxing event. He brought me into the dressing room of the 67's and let me lace up future NHL players, I sat court side when the Harlem Globetrotters came to town and got pulled on court to be part of the show. As kids we saw a grizzly bear in their lane way that was a feature wrestling event at Lansdown park. All events that I will cherish for ever. The fondest memories I have, are of my drop in hello's that would last for hours and how the easy conversation and stories would flow. I feel deep sadness at the passing of Mr Darwin. I am also sad for the loss Mrs. Darwin, Nancy, Jack and Jeff are feeling right now and can only temper my sadness by remembering the gracious hospitality of Mr. Darwin and wonderful times I've had with the Darwin family.
God bless you Mr Darwin.

It is with great sadness that the Spratt family learned of Howard's death yesterday. The Darwin and Spratt families go back a long way together, not only as neighbours but as true friends. The very deep and personal friendship that my late father Ken Spratt and Howard had has never been forgotten by our family. The two shared many a beer and more than a few laughs together! And they will again, in heaven.
We share deeply in your sorrow at this time because we consider all of you members of our family.
