GAUKRODGER, Alice Christina (Mackenzie) (Honours B.A., M.A. (Psychology)) Died peacefully at The Briton House, Toronto, Tuesday September 21, 2010 at the age of 83 years. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 53 years, Dr. William Thomas Gaukrodger and her parents, John Murdoch Fraser Mackenzie and Josephine (Vradenburg) Mackenzie. Lovingly remembered by her three children, Leslie (Guy Nelson), Elspeth Gaukrodger (Robert McAdam) and David Gaukrodger (Tamara Mawhinney) and her six grandchildren, Ryan, Trevor, Jocelyn, Liseanne, Kellen and Aidan. Fondly remembered by her surviving sisters Anne (Bob Forbes), Mary Cormier, Jeanne (John Glass), brother Murdoch Mackenzie, and sister-in-law Gwen Derby. Sadly predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law Isabel (Allan Tennant), Eloise (Wilf Steabner) and Eleanor (John Nixon), Leo Cormier and Lois Mackenzie. Alice was raised in Fredericton and graduated with a B.A. from the University of New Brunswick (1947), and an Honours B.A. (1951) and an M.A. in Psychology from Queen's University (1952). A strong believer in the importance of education, Alice practiced as a psychologist for many years with the School Boards of Ottawa and Western Quebec; consulting for schools in Aylmer, Chelsea, Namur, Nepean and Rockcliffe Park. Alice enjoyed entertaining, cooking and sharing good food with family and friends at her home on the Rideau River. Over the years she and her husband Bill enjoyed many exciting trips to Brazil, Egypt, Russia, China, and Kenya as well as regular vacations in Florida and in Vail, Colorado. Her many other interests included sailing, reading and golf at the Ottawa Hunt Club. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Purita and to the many caregivers at The Briton House. Friends will be received at the Tubman Funeral Home, Westboro Chapel, 403 Richmond Road (at Roosevelt Avenue), on Monday, September 27, 2010 from 7 to 9 pm. A Memorial service to celebrate Alice's life will be held at the Westboro Chapel on Tuesday, September 28th at 11:00 am.
