PIAMONTE, Herta
"It is better to travel well than to arrive."
Peacefully at Anmore, British Columbia on Friday, April 13, 2012 at age 87. Herta Piamonte (nee Raff) was the war bride to her fiercely proud decommissioned Sicilian soldier husband, Agostino Piamonte. Having suffered the loss of their first-born child Teresa Maria in war-ravaged Europe, Herta and Agostino emigrated to Canada to start a new life with their pursuant three children. In Canada they flourished and ultimately raised eight children: Mario (Lynn), John (Rhonda), Victor (in Freiburg, Germany), Robert (Marie) [both deceased], Dennis (Margita), Edward (Lona), Eileen (Michael Thatcher) and Sylvia (Richard Sokoluk); and their 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Known affectionately by all her loving family as Oma, Herta and our father Agostino indeed traveled well. They are finally reunited with our eldest sister Teresa and our brother Robert and will sadly be missed by those who remain.
Our special thanks to their adoptive country Canada for providing a safe and prosperous environment to our parents. It was also for them a most precious gift.
