Maureen Kellerman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 21 to Apr. 22, 2012.
1957-2012 KELLERMAN, Maureen Elizabeth, age 57. Peacefully on April 18, 2012, surrounded by love. Survived by her spouse Elspeth MacEwan, cherished daughters Sarah and Mariel Angus, mother Marion Kerans (Pat) and siblings Karen (Brian), Joanne (Michael), Lyn (Jamie) and Robert (Heather). Also survived by Murray Angus (Joyce), numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by father Bill Kellerman and brother Patrick (Deborah).

After completing her BA in Canadian Studies at Carleton University, Maureen devoted her life to supporting young families at the local and national levels. She worked for Canadian Association of Family Resource Centres, and Canadian/Military Family Resource Centres. Educator, activist, and leader, Maureen founded Mothers Are Women (MAW), and was a key organizer for the legalization of midwifery in Ontario. In later years, Maureen's renowned calm and "centredness" found its greatest expression through her Healing Pathways ministry. Her loving passion and mentorship in this spiritual healing art will be a much valued legacy throughout the United Church in central and eastern Canada.

In lieu of flowers, donations to charity of choice. Thanks to Dr. Paul Hacker, volunteers and staff of May Court Hospice. Visitation Thursday April 26, 7 to 9 PM, and Memorial service Friday, April 27 at 7 PM, both at First United Church, 347 Richmond Road, Ottawa.

I worked with Maureen only briefly at the Director Military Family Services. She had a cubicle just down from mine. She struck me as someone with something special....sort of a quiet strength from within. I am sorry to hear of her passing. I know she had a significant impact on the world around her, that is something I respect. I needed to share that. I didn't know her for long, but she made a lasting impression.

My deepest sympathies for your loss. Maureen was a lovely person. We worked together in the early 90's setting up the Ontario Association of Family Resource Centres, again when I was President of FRP Canada and then again at Director Military Family Services. I greatly admired her intelligence and compassion. Sue McCormack (Ottawa ON).
